The Lace Guild is open to anyone in the world with an interest in making, collecting or enjoying lace in any form.

New to Lacemaking?

  • We can help you with advice, support, inspiration and resources.

  • We can put you in touch with a UK teacher.

  • We have lists of UK local groups and their contacts.

  • Our quarterly magazine, Early Days In Lacemaking, is aimed at new lacemakers. It includes patterns with detailed instructions.

  • Our library has many how-to books available.

  • We often have second-hand equipment and books for sale, as well as our own bobbins and books.

Looking to Learn New Techniques?

  • We organise courses for lacemakers, including Short Courses and a  Summer Retreat. Members pay reduced fees for these and other Lace Guild events.

  • We hold regularly updated lists of UK tutors.

  • Our quarterly magazine, Lace, is full of information and news about the many types of lacemaking.

  • We offer Assessment Schemes for various kinds of lace, at varying levels of proficiency.

  • Our library has books and periodicals about all sorts of lace. We also sell how-to books, and pattern books.

  • There is a small grant scheme available to members. You may be eligible to apply for help to attend a course or other training.

Researching Textiles?

  • Our museum has a large collection of lace and lace-related artefacts.

  • Appointments with the Curator can be arranged outside usual opening hours.

  • Our quarterly magazine, Lace, has many articles about the history of lace, and lace collections nationwide.

  • The library has many books which are hard to find elsewhere.

  • Researchers may also qualify for one of our small grants.

Help us to keep this great craft alive for future generations...

The Lace Guild is the only UK national organisation left dedicated solely to lace. Without it, lacemaking might be incorporated into another craft guild, or its heritage and future would be lost entirely. Your support for The Lace Guild helps to fulfil our goals as an educational charity and make sure our craft remains vibrant and alive for future generations to enjoy.

You can also support us by volunteering! We need people to run the Guild through the Board of Trustees (it's not a lifetime commitment). And we also need people to help in the museum and library, with demonstrating lace to the public, and to help with the upkeep of the premises.

We are dedicated to preserving the traditional lace techniques of the UK, to make sure they are not forgotten. We also strive to develop traditions for the modern world in supporting new techniques for contemporary lace. The best of all these worlds can be seen in our Triennial Exhibition and competition.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer then it is possible for the Lace Guild to claim 25% of your subscription rate (or any additional donations you might make) from HMRC. This costs you nothing. All you need to do is download the document via the button below, fill it in, and send it back to us at The Hollies (post or email) - and we will do the rest!
