The aims and objectives of the organisation are to: promote lacemaking as a craft throughout Australia and to unite people interested in all forms of lace and lace making.

Members include toolmakers, collectors, and historians as well as those actively engaging in making lace. The annual membership subscription entitles members to four issues of the quarterly Guild Journal Australian Lace.

The Westhope Group was founded in 1989 to bring together lacemakers wishing to take forward traditional lace skills into modern textile art.

Members come together once a year to share knowledge and expertise, obtain an objective assessment of their work and ideas and discuss matters relating to general and specific lacemaking problems.   The Group’s name is taken from Westhope College in Shropshire (UK), where the meetings are held.

Over the years the annual meeting has provided a considerable stimulus to group members, who share a fascination with the diversity of lace and related textiles and are keen to preserve traditional techniques, while developing lace as a recognised contemporary art form in the 21st Century.

The Lace Museum USA

The Lace Museum is located in “Silicon Valley” in the USA (the greater San Francisco, California area). Local visitors are welcome to exhibits, tours and in-person instruction, and since 2020 the museum has specialized in presenting online lace classes to students throughout the world.
Online classes range from complete beginner to intermediate and advanced, with instructors from the US, Canada, UK and EU (so far). They include bobbin and needle laces, crochet, sol lace, tatting, sprang, and more. Students love the close-up view of instructors’ hands, weekly classes with time for homework, and recordings available to replay while doing their homework.
